...tuesday shoes day: lanvin and wedding day!

Continuing my quest for pointy, let's examine these lovelies...

These are exquisite! But I'll have to pack a pair of ballet flats in my bag when I wear them; my feet hurt already. Remember: beauty is pain, beauty is pain, beauty is pain...

Speaking of Lanvin, there was a lot of anticipation for their H&M line, and then a frenzy on Saturday morning when the line was released.

Lanvin for H&M
Fashionistas everywhere camped out overnight, some in the freezing cold, just to get first dibs...and then spent as much on H&M Lanvin as they would have on real Lanvin. No wonder, I think the yellow dress was over $250. Read one account here. I don't get it.

The only time you'll see me camping out for fashion, is if you guaranteed Colin Firth himself, in a tux, would be on the other side of the door with a new Balenciaga just for me.

Lanvin

And to more important matters...It's been exactly a week since the royal engagement was announced, and now William and Kate have decided on April 29, 2011 for the royal wedding. So the countdown begins. Obsessed?

...monday mirage: mansion vitraux in buenos aires

Pack your dancing shoes, riding boots, and bathing suits. We're travelling to Buenos Aires and staying at the intimate Mansión Vitraux, an architectural fantasy with luxe comforts to match.

I love this room! Note to self: make huge floor to ceiling tufted headboard...

"The Mansión Vitraux's ultra-modern exterior are partnered by glamorous lighting, a sprinkling of antiques and fashion-forward finishes; like the tango, it's all about passion and drama." And, get this, the brochure says leave the kids at home! Hello, heaven? Sign me up! Details here.

I need to win the lottery, or seduce a terminal billionaire and make him my second husband. Actually, prices start at $200 USD, so that may not be necessary... See you in Buenos Aires!

...sunday sipping: dulce de leche coffee

Allow me to whine... I must be getting sick, or old, but the temperature isn't even below freezing yet and I'm already shivering. It'll take a small miracle to help me make it through this winter...or just some dulce de leche coffee.

Dulce de leche coffee, from The Pioneer Woman Cooks!

I'm warning you, this is hot liquid CRACK: strong coffee, condensed milk, and Kahlua are involved. And then, god help us... whipping cream and 'enough chocolate shavings that I’m  in danger of inhaling it into my lungs when I bring it to my mouth to take a sip.'  The first time you taste this, you may cry tears of joy.

Read Ree's hilarious recipe here.

...saturday silver screen: year of living dangerously

I'm sad that Mel Gibson's career and life has taken such a tragic turn. I turned a blind eye to news of his racist rants. I'm in denial over his abusive relationship with the  Russian gold digger. Mel gave a great performance in the shockingly violent Edge of Darkness, but it's shocking how much he's aged. He looks much older than his 55 years.

I like to remember Mel as he first appeared on my radar, in 1982's haunting 'The Year of Living Dangerously'. Set in 1960s Indonesia (filmed in the Philippines!), Gibson is the ambitious Australian journalist who makes a name for himself with the help of Billy Kwan, a Chinese-Australian dwarf photographer (say that 3 times fast) played by Linda Hunt. Hunt, a woman, deservedly won that year's supporting Oscar. Sigourney Weaver enters the picture, 'and so it begins'....

The romance between Mel and Sigourney's characters is one of this flawless film's strong points. I use the word gorgeous a lot, but it's not an exaggeration in this case. They were GORGEOUS. At the time, Sigourney described Mel as 'the most beautiful man I've ever seen'. Women everywhere agreed.

In fact, in 1985 Mel was People magazine's first ever Sexiest Man Alive.

...that was a long time ago.

...favorite things: tory burch, LV and monograms

My favorite thing(s) from Oprah's Ultimate Favorite Things 2010 show:

Tory tote, $250 and Reva flats, $195 in grey flannel from toryburch.com

I haven't watched the whole show -- the Raptors were playing -- but this was the one that had me gasping. The boys were more impressed with the 52" Sony 3d tv, as you can imagine.

While we're on the subject of favorite things, I'd love this too: The Louis Vuitton monogrammed suitcase that GOOP received as a  generous gift from the Louis Vuitton people. (insert eye roll here)
from GOOP holiday gifts newsletter

speedy! monograms! be still my pretentious heart! You have to admit this luxurious set is to die for...
speedy 30, $970

keepall, $1340

pegase 65, $4070

...fashion friday: felonies and favorites

I'm not the fashion police, but if I ever catch any of you in these, I will make a citizen's arrest and charge you with a fashion felony. The pricetags alone leave me speechless.

L to R: 1. VPL liquid stretch leggings, $275, 2. Alexander McQueen wool silk leggings, $1020,
3. Stella McCartney animal print silk pants, $635, and 4. Sass & Bide pants, $475

The mighty Oprah airs her last 'Favorite Things' show today. I'll exchange 5 years of my life (1983-1987) for a ticket to this show, and I'm bringing earplugs. Can you imagine the loot?

It's Friday! I'll be found here all weekend, catching up on the December magazines and catalogues, movies on my PVR (The Runaways and New York I Love You, in case you were wondering), lots of hot coffee to start the day and a bottle of wine to end it... Oh, and red velvet cheesecake sometime in between.

...thursday talk: texting

So tv star Eva Longoria is divorcing her NBA star husband, Tony Parker. This juicy scandal is gaining more than the usual share of attention because Eva decided to file for divorce when she discovered that Tony had a year-long texting relationship with a former teammate's wife.

Eva told everyone Tony's a cheater, is asking for spousal support despite already making tons of her own money, and got Tony to release a statement insisting he did not want to file for divorce. I LOVE HER.

Which leads us to the burning questions of the day:

1. Assuming there is no physical contact, do you consider a texting (or email) relationship cheating?
2. Do you check your spouse's text or email messages? Do you have the right to check?
3. Are men really so idiotic that they don't bother to delete their text or email history?
4. Should Eva receive spousal support?
5. Could Bristol Palin actually win the popular tv show that I WILL NEVER WATCH AGAIN?

My answers below:

1. Umm, no. Until there are pictures.
2. No. Yes.
3. No, men delete their text history unless they have something to hide or lots of money to lose. Then yes.
4. Yes! You cheat, you pay.
5. Sadly, yes. Voters are stupid.

Discuss.

...wednesday watch: sex and the way we were

The Way We Were

Did you see Barbra Streisand on Oprah yesterday? I'd seen the previews and knew that Robert Redford would also appear, but when he walked on the stage I still cried 'Oh My God!', as if I had no idea. Babs looked great, didn't she? Redford, well not so much.

You know 'The Way We Were': passionate but plain girl loves gorgeous goyish boy, she gets a makeover, they marry, breakup. Then the ending... Many years later, Babs & Redford meet on the street, look at each other with regret and longing, and say goodbye. Then Babs sings... The ending leaves me sobbing EVERY TIME! It's movie magic.

"I'm a very good loser." MWAAA!

Coincidentally, the Sex&TheCity season 2 finale was rerun today. That's the episode where Carrie learns that Big is engaged to Natasha, the 'stick figure with no soul'. It ends with Carrie meeting Big, and they pretty much reenact 'The Way We Were'.

"Why wasn't it me? I just need to hear you say it."I need Kleenex.

Say what you will about SJP's looks, but she is smokin' hot in this episode. She SASHAYS--not walk, or march, or step, or schlepp, she SASHAYS--across the screen in those heels and that tiny slip dress. And Chris Noth as Big? Perfect casting. We understood why Carrie was so crazy about him. Love them!

And also...

GOOP is on Glee right now, speaking Spanish, singing and dancing. We get it GOOP, you're multi-talented. I fully admit that you did not suck tonight. I'm not a hater. I'm a very good loser.

...tuesday shoes day: pointy and the engagement!

I'm making a prediction. My predictions almost always come true, even when I don't want them to. But here it is...
Mahnolo Blahnik - are these Carrie Bradshaw's mythical Mahnolo mary janes?
Pointy shoes are making a big comeback in 2011. The longer the point, the better. This pair isn't even pointy enough.  Gladiators--flat, high heels, boots or sandals--are out. Just saying.

And on today's great, late breaking news:

Read People here.
Update: I am now completely obsessed with this royal engagement. Here's a video of their first interview. She is absolutely lovely. Nervous, but lovely.

...monday mirage: sexiest man alive?

We survived Monday, so time to play a game. People must be ready to announce this year's 'Sexiest Man Alive'. The editors haven't asked me who this year's recipient should be, but I'd like to tell them anyway.

Here are these year's contenders:

 1. Pitt 2. Clooney
I believe this picture is from 2001. The Goddess + Pitt look so golden, young and happy here. 1.Honestly even when he was married to the Goddess I never found Brad any more appealing than say, Ross Gellar.  2. George was hot as Dr Ross, but that was years ago. Now he's just super man, all Oscar winner, smug and charitable. Gotta say though, aging gracefully.

3. The kid from Twilight.
3. This pale skinny guy is a contender? Seriously? That would be wrong.
4. Johnny Depp
4. He's won before, so unlikely repeat this year. I've never understood his appeal. And have you seen trailer for 'The Tourist'? Does he know he looks crazy? and smelly?
5. Hamm
5. Finally, someone good. Unfortunately, not famous enough. Love him as Don Draper, but he was underwhelming in The Town.

6. Affleck
6. I've always found him so handsome. And I loved the Town. He won't get it.
7. Leo
7. As A list as they come, the best actor of his generation. I'd love to see him in a rom com, or anything where he cracks a smile for even a minute. He doesn't do fluff, and would probably turn down the title and run away if People offered to him. They probably already have. He's too good for this and he knows it.

8. Colin Firth
8. He's 50, vewy Bwwwitish, gifted, and a serious Oscar contender this year.  He should be campaigning for the Oscars, not People. Still, he would be a great pick. And that accent...

9. Gosling
9. He's a gifted actor, and Canadian! If People gives this to a Canadian, it won't be this Ryan.

These are old pics obviously, but McGosling looks so cute and in love here so I just wanted to post.
10. Jakey
10. Currently promoting Love&Other Drugs. People sometimes ties SMA to a promo, so it's very possible he'll be named this year. Dating Swifty, ugh. Charming, cute, adorable, like a puppy.
11. Patrick
11. He's not really on anyone's possible SMA list, but he should be. Anyway, it's beneath him. Patrick, we'll always have Little Children.
Who would have thought I would run out of steam writing about movie stars?! There are so many more contenders I'll just keep it really brief.

12. Keanu 13. Mark Ruffalo. 14. Eric Bana - They're not on any short lists for this ridiculous title, but like I always say, there's no accounting for taste. These guys are talented and sexy.
12. Keanu - just because.
13. Ruffalo. Another sexy, low profile actor who can do it all.

15. Eric Bana - Australian, funny, also too good for this.
I thought I could play this game forever, but I'm exhausted. I don't even care now who gets this um, honour. As it turns out the next two are real contenders.

16. Justin Timberlake -- really? He's a great pop star, but he's a terrible actor. Terrible. And not sexy. Not. You know what he looks like. I won't bother posting.

17. Ryan Reynolds -- ok, maybe. Give it to him already.
17. He's Canadian, and his wife is arguably the sexiest chick alive. That's gotta be a plus. Yeah, he could be the SMA. But, is he wearing foundation here?
Winner? I vote for Colin Firth. But I'm guessing it will be Ryan Reynolds or Jakey. Colin will just have to be happy with that Oscar.

Update: I'm too good at this game.
